I would truly not be able to go through with following my dreams without inspiration of others who have been successful in attaining and reaching their goals. True role models are those who possess the qualities that we would like to have and those who have affected us in a way that makes us want to be better people. To advocate for ourselves and our goals and take leadership on the issues that we believe in. We often don’t recognize our true role models until we have noticed our own personal growth and progress. Miss Teen Canada-World has taught me to not set limits on what I could do. I believe a person has many role models in their lives. Each role model teaches a person about themselves . A role model to me is someone who not only treats me as an equal but is honest, trusting, and most of all open-minded especially in today’s society. We live in a society that really doesn’t allow one to be different . A role model DARES you and themselves to be different.Hoping to boost her acting skills, Olivia Culpo entered the Miss Rhode Island pageant last October – her first pageant – with a dress that was ripped in the back. She won! She then went on to winning Miss USA, and now she is known as Miss Universe 2012! On the elation of winning, Olivia said,It felt like I was dreaming. You just can’t believe it for awhile.” She is so inspirational because she still manages to stay so humble, even with her high status! As I watch Olivia Culpo’s highlights on her success, it truly makes me believe even a normal teenage girl like myself can one day reach my goals and be my absolute very best! Not going to lie, becoming Miss Universe one day is definitely on my list of things to try out! There is no limits for me anymore, I am always going to be challenging myself. I am hoping for my journey to resemble that of Olivia and become Miss Teen Canada-World 2013 because that is my biggest dream as of this moment. I will not stop until I reach my goal, shoot for the stars! Thankfully there is no height requirement because I am only about 5’3 and a half right now, and Olivia Culpo managed to win Miss Universe at only 5’5!
Here are some fun facts about Miss Universe Olivia Culpo:
1. At the beginning of September, 2011, Olivia Culpo was elected Miss Rhode Island USA, allowing her to become a delegate for the 2012 Miss USA Pageant in Las Vegas.
2. Olivia was born on May 8, 1990, in Cranston, RI (a small state on the coast of Atlantic Ocean), the daughter of Peter and Susan Culpo, both musicians.
3. She graduated from Academy St. Mary Bay View with highest honors in 2010.
4. In the second half of 2012, she gained the national title of Miss USA as a dark-horse candidate, ending along losing spell for RI in the NBC telecast (first Rhode Islander to do so in the contest’s 60-year history). From the beginning, the 20-year-old Boston University sophomore had not been a top contender for the national crown. In the meantime, Culpo’s election set off a wave of explosive emotion in her native Cranston (RI).
5. After her victory as Miss USA 2012, she had a series of meetings with Leila Lopes, the long-serving Miss Universe of Angola, in the States…
6. On December 19, 2012, Olivia, wearing a red and long-sleeved dress, led America to win the Miss Universe tiara by defeating Philippines and Venezuela. After not being a favorite during the beauty contest, she ended up winning the world trophy. A few days prior to the finals, Gabriela Rubi, a famous astrologer in the Hispanic community, predicted that Culpo would not make the top 10.
7. Miss Universe Olivia Culpo’s election was seen by an estimated worldwide audience of 1 billion viewers on TV and online, an event which included a significant number of delegates from the Third World and former Communist nations such as Croatia, Lithuania, and Slovakia. Meanwhile, the NBC telecast was one of the top television programs in the States on December 19, 2012.
8. With a Jennifer López- type look, the cello-playing brunette was named as the “most beautiful girl of the world” at the Planet Hollywood Casino in Las Vegas.
9. She, self described “cellist-nerd”, succeeded Leila Lopes of Angola (Southern Africa), last’s year winner.
10. Despite tripping slightly during the evening gown competition, a 10-judge panel, including Nigel Baker (one of the most celebrated fashion photographers), e
lected Miss Culpo as the winner.

Miss Rhode Island, to Miss USA, to now Miss Universe – Olivia Culpo has so many great qualities about her that make her such an amazing woman. The best thing about her is that she is taking advantage of her traveling abilities to speak out about HIV/AIDS and raise awareness to her platform. She is a true pageant queen with a warm heart and who is beautiful inside and out. I hope to reflect a positive image of her when I go on stage at nationals!

Prior to becoming a Miss Teen Canada-World titleholder, I never really got the chance or desire to participate in community events and volunteer. I finished all my 40 hours of community service for high school at a home daycare, so I did not have much experience with different volunteering jobs. Since being crowned Miss Teen Wellington County, I have gotten to know my city a little better. In March I helped out at a March break dance camp with a young group of children, early spring I volunteered and made an appearance at a Kidsability event which supports children with physical disabilities, and just this month I got to appear and volunteer at the annual Guelph and District Multicultural Festival! I enjoy volunteering so much now because it really has helped me gain confidence, and I have gotten to meet so many great people of different ages. I love being recognized as Miss Teen Wellington County in my community the most because it makes me feel like a true icon! Volunteering has also helped me gain support and respect of many different groups in my community, and I was even invited to work with the multicultural festival. It’s a great feeling knowing that you are a valuable person in the community. Guelph is actually named the “volunteer capital” city of Canada! Us Guelphites love to help out, so should everyone! People should volunteer more often to help others, make new friends, learn new skills, test out career options, become recognized, be a part of a team, gain work experience, and most of all; HAVE FUN! People should not let the fear of commitment get in the way of volunteering. Volunteering benefits us all and helps make our world a little bit of a better place! With busy lives, it can be hard to find time to volunteer. However, the benefits of volunteering are enormous to you, your family, and your community. The right match can help you find friends, reach out to the community, learn new skills, and even advance your career. Volunteering can also help protect your mental and physical health. One of the better-known benefits of volunteering is the impact on the community. Unpaid volunteers are often the glue that holds a community together. Volunteering allows you to connect to your community and make it a better place. However, volunteering is a two-way street, and it can benefit you and your family as much as the cause you choose to help. Dedicating your time as a volunteer helps you make new friends, expand your network, and boost your social skills. While some people are naturally outgoing, others are shy and have a hard time meeting new people. Volunteering gives you the opportunity to practice and develop your social skills, since you are meeting regularly with a group of people with common interests. Once you have momentum, it’s easier to branch out and make more friends and contacts. As Miss Teen wellington county-World 2013, volunteering has benefited me immensely! I have been invited back to many community organizations and I have met so many great people who are supporting my journey to Miss Teen Canada-World. I love every single one of my supporters! If you haven’t already, follow me on Twitter, Facebook, and now on Instagram! 🙂

There is a lot more to pageants than just makeup, dresses and manicures! Looking back at my very first provincial pageant at Miss Teen Ontario, I have realized how much Miss Teen Canada-World has helped me break out of my shell and become more confident. Before making it to nationals, believe it or not, I actually was hesitant when applying for Miss Teen Canada-World. I really did not believe that I could do something like a pageant, but I have always dreamt about it. I built up the courage and applied to be Miss Teen Canada-World 2013! I was so happy and proud of myself when I advanced to nationals! This journey has taught me that anybody can reach their desires with just a little bit of hard work and determination! I have never wanted anything so bad in my teenage life, and I am glad that I will be able to share this story with my grand children one day and make them proud. Most people probably have a negative view on beauty pageants, and I blame this on the media. Such television shows like Toddlers and Tiaras make beauty pageants seem degrading towards young girls because of all the hair, makeup and costumes. In reality, beauty pageants actually teach the same skills that sports can! For example, football teaches athletes that no goal is beyond their reach. Girls who participate in football have to work even harder to get on the team and do their best at all times to stay on the team. Pageants also set high expectations for girls. Whether her goal is to get the crown, win the most talented contest, or to sell the most ads – pageants gives girls goals they must be fully committed to in order to achieve. Also, Martial Arts teaches mental discipline, character development and building self-confidence. Likewise, a pageant participant cannot be successful without these attributes, most importantly self-confidence. Without believing in yourself, you will surely fail to reach your goal. In fact, I have gained so much self confidence that I truly believe that I could now talk to anybody! I have come such a long way since the Ontario provincial pageant, and I have grown up so much, all thanks to Miss Teen Canada-World. My favourite part about being a national titleholder is inspiring young people in my community. I have received many heart warming messages from many different people telling me how I have inspired them with being involved in the community, and promoting my platform of raising awareness to mental health in teenagers. I know I am doing something right when people I may not know so well are proud of me. I am doing this to not only push my limits, but to make my community, city and peers proud. Especially, I am going for the big win to prove all the doubters wrong. Nothing makes me want to work harder and achieve my goals than people telling me I can’t reach my dreams; because right now, I am! I cannot wait to share pictures from Nationals Week! I am so excited to be representing Wellington county in just 20 days at the national pageant, I promise to make my community proud! Thanks to MTC-W Inc, I have created a journey that I will remember for a lifetime.

Personalized gifts are the perfect way to celebrate special occasions, and especially impress friends and family.  Personalized Towels offers personalized towels and gifts for every occasion and with a wide selection of towels that are exclusively embroidered.
If I were a marketing company executive in charge of creating a thirty second television spot for Signature Towels to market their personalized towels, the commercial would take place on a hot beach in Spain! Every type of person would be able to relate to my commercial. Young children, adults and even elders, would be drawn in and want to buy a special personalized towel if they saw that every day people used them! Putting people into my commercial can help draw my target audience in. The setting of the commercial would be at a typical looking Canadian beach, with the sun shining and the water glistening! The family would be showing off their Personalized Towels and having fun in the sun while up beat music plays .  My script for the commercial would include the family starting out with just regular old bath towels, not having as much fun…and then the mother finds out about Signature Towels! She buys them for the whole family and now each member of the family has their own style added to their bath towels! The family instantly has more fun showing off their personalized bath towels! The commercial first starts out with the children complaining about how the other kids at the beach have such nicer towels than they do. “Mom, all the other kids look so cool with their personalized names on their beach towels! Why can’t I have one?”, asks the young son. This would imply the message that people will have more fun when their own style is incorporated into their own bath towels! The best part is that ANYONE could bring a signature towel like these to the beach or just to have at home after a nice long shower or bubble bath. A happy family walks by them and looks ten times better than they do, the jealous mother decides to get the whole family signature towels! She doesn’t want to be out of the loop either. With signature towels, the entire family is happy! The family aren’t the only actors in this commercial though!

The VS Models would choose Signature Personalized Towels too!

The Victoria’s Secret models come walking down the beach and place their bright pink personalized towels right next to the family. “We only use Signature Personalized Towels, they are perfect! Where are your personalized towels?” Asks the model to the family. Now the mother knows for sure she made a good decision by buying the personalized signature towels. Their long beach day comes to a close with their cool personalized beach towels resting on the rocky sand as the family dives in the water for one last swim! GET YOUR PERSONALIZED BEACH TOWEL TODAY! ONLY AT SIGNATURE TOWELS.

Guelph is a city in Southwestern Ontario, Canada. My hometown Guelph is also known as “The Royal City” because King George IV was the reigning British monarch at the time Guelph was founded. Growing up in Guelph must have given me good luck at the provincial provincial pageant now that I am known as royalty too ;).  Due to its low crime rates, clean environment and generally high standard of living, Guelph is consistently rated as one of the country’s best places to live!
A very special place in my hometown that brings tourists to Guelph would be the McCrae House. This isn’t just your ordinary house! The McCrae House located in Guelph, is the birthplace of John McCrae. He was a Canadian poet, physician, author, artist and soldier during the first World War. He is best known for his famous poem, “In Flanders Fields”, which he wrote on May 3, 1915. McCrae House contains both permanent and temporary exhibition space that interprets the life and times of John McCrae. Yearly themes are offered. Summer activities include Poppy Push, Canada Day, Teddy Bear Picnic, History Camp and special teas in the garden. The gardening volunteers have worked to create an award-winning garden reflecting the time period of the mid-to-late 19th century. The house is a national historic site of Canada. This small limestone cottage, built c.1858, was owned by the McCrae family from 1870 to 1873. Other families occupied the house until 1966, when a group of Guelph citizens purchased the building with the intention of preserving it as a museum. This group formed the Lt. Col. John McCrae Birthplace Society and began to raise money for its restoration. The federal government through the Historic Sites & Monuments Board has designated both John McCrae as a person of national significance, and the house as a place of national significance.  The operation of the museum was transferred to the City of Guelph in 1983 and along with Guelph Civic Museum, was merged under the name Guelph Museums. I am so lucky to have come from a city full of history and talent. “In Flanders Fields” will always be a famous poem and it still  is being recited to this day! It is great to know that such a talented author was from my hometown! It’s amazing how much historical information Guelph has! Even in the downtown area, the buildings are well over centuries old. There’s no better place that I would have preferred to grow up. GO CHECK OUT THE McCrae House in Guelph! Thanks Skylon Tower Niagara Falls for sponsoring the Miss Teen Canada World 2nd blog challenge. Sponsoring this pageant makes it even more fun with all the amazing prizes the sponsors give us a chance to win! Every summer I visit the falls and the scenery is just breath taking! No wonder Niagara Falls is the biggest tourist attraction in Canada.

Why should we even bother to save the planet? It’s totally out of control that global warming is a problem right? WRONG. The climate is changing to the extreme, and the impacts on the planet could be substantial.  Due to burning fossil fuels (coal, gas and oil) and clearing forests we have increased the amount of carbon dioxide dramatically in the Earth’s atmosphere and the temperatures are rising! When we burn fossil fuels, we create two main kinds of pollution: greenhouse gases and smog-causing pollutants.  Smog has been linked to many health problems, from respiratory diseases to cancer. In addition, warmer and drier weather also increases the likelihood of forest fires which release carbon dioxide.

A large portion of deforestation in Brazil can be attributed to land clearing for pastureland by commercial and speculative interests, misguided government policies, inappropriate World Bank projects, and commercial exploitation of forest resources.

Trees are important because they act as carbon sinks and extract carbon dioxide from the air.
There are so many ways that cities like Guelph can start to become more “Green” and eco-friendly. More cities should start to use green buildings! What exactly is a green building? Well, there are many definitions of what a green building is and what it does. Definitions may range from a building that is “not as bad” as the average building in terms of its impact on the environment or one that is “notably better” than the average building. A green building is one whose construction and lifetime of operation assure the healthiest possible environment while representing the most efficient and least disruptive use of land, water, energy and resources.  While many green materials and technologies do cost more, it has been demonstrated that many green strategies and technologies actually cost the same and some even cost less than traditional “not-so-green” technologies. By blending the right mix of green technologies that cost less with green technologies that cost the same or slightly more, it is possible to have a very green building project that costs the same as a conventional one. Often the key to a cost effective green building and site design lies within the interrelationships and associated cost and performance trade-offs that exist between different building systems. I am so proud to say that my very own City Hall of Guelph is built to meet the LEED Silver Standard (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) set out by the Canada Green Building Council. Its use of local and eco-friendly building materials, efficient lighting, its green roof and its heating and cooling systems are just some of the ways to reduce the City’s use of water and energy and lower its environmental footprint. Compared to a typical office building, City Hall uses 30 – 40 per cent less water and energy.Bicycle storage and showers encourage City employees to walk or cycle to work, which can reduce fuel consumption and greenhouse gas emissions from cars driving to and from City Hall. City employees can exchange a parking pass for a transit pass. Taking transit to City Hall reduces traffic congestion, air pollution and fossil fuel consumption as Guelph Transit vehicles use biodiesel fuel. About half of City Hall’s roof is covered by a living, growing collection of plants.

What a green roof looks like!

The green roof provides excellent insulation and helps to keep the building warm during the winter and cool during the summer. The soil and plants absorb rain water and melted snow to reduce stormwater runoff and, like all plants, they convert carbon dioxide into oxygen, which reduces air pollution. Typical carpets, glues and paints contain toxic volatile organic compounds (VOCs) that cause air pollution and potential health problems. Using low-VOC materials protects the health of the people building and working in City Hall. At least 10% of the materials used to build City Hall came from local suppliers. Using local sources lowers the fuel needed to deliver supplies, and supports local businesses.  TIO COAT flat roof is a great roof product for home owners who are looking for a new way to help improve the environment. TIOCOAT™ is a elastomeric coating of high-strength that gives the best achievable weather resistance and reflectivity. Specifically, flat roof is a tough white finish resists abrasion, biological growth, dirt and extreme weather conditions. Energy efficient buildings are a winning situation for both a company’s operating budget and the environment. While new construction properties can benefit from passive energy conservation techniques, such as building designs that maximize sunlight for heat and light or incorporate rooftop gardens for water management and insulation, existing buildings can conserve energy without compromising comfort or safety.  🙂
